Dr. Yolanda Edwards, Ph.D., CRC is a Professor and Program Coordinator of Rehabilitation Counseling program and department chair of Educational Leadership Counseling and Professional Studies at WSSU. Previously, Edwards was Assistant Professor at University of Maryland College Park in Counselor Education Program  with doctoral and masters students (UMCP, 2001-2005) and University of South Carolina In School of Medicine in Rehabilitation Counseling Program which is part of Psychiatry Department (USC 2005-2007). Since 2002, she served as been a PI and/or director of eight different Department of Education Rehabilitation Service Administration grants at three different universities totaling 4.0 million dollars including focusing on training individuals to work with individuals with disability (rehabilitation counseling) with following focus areas: rural rehabilitation, underrepresented youth with disabilities, mental health and job placement for individuals with disabilities. She has fifteen years of experience as rehabilitation counselor educator. She has authored several articles and books chapters dealing with rehabilitation education, distance education, minorities with disabilities, and minorities with mental health issues. Edwards also has held several leadership positions in state and national professional organization such as: Associate Editor of the Journal of Applied Rehabilitation Counseling (JARC), past president of American Rehabilitation Counseling Association (ARCA, 2008-2009) chair of professional standards for ARCA, past secretary of National Association of Multicultural Rehabilitation Concerns (2005-2009), Council on Rehabilitation Education accreditation board and serves as reviewer for Rehabilitation Education Journal, Journal of Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Counseling Education Journal (RCEA).

Dr. Edwards has been a productive scholar with ten co-authored articles and one single author and four books chapters. Of these, four of the article articles were in top referred journals in rehabilitation field. Since appointed at Winston Salem State University in 2007, she has written three articles and three book chapters and presented over 45 papers at conferences.

In addition to her voluminous research, she has served as Associate Editor of Journal of Applied Rehabilitation Counseling for five years (2004-2009), and served as referee reviewer for four rehabilitation journals. This is clear evidence of meeting the department scholarship criteria of having editorship of a scholarly, peer reviewed journal. She believes that this important editorial work has improvement her teaching by keeping her abreast of new ideas, trends, and connected to a vast knowledge base of experts in the field.
